Métis Elders Firewood Program

Up to two cords of firewood each year to help Red River Métis Elders (65+) heat their primary residence. Applicants under 65 with a verified disability may also be eligible.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a Red River Métis Citizen aged 65+.
  • Citizens under 65 with proof of disability are eligible.
  • Annual income limits:$45,000 (single) or ≤ $90,000 (family)

Confirmation of Disability (if under 65)

  • Doctor's note or fisability slip to verify your disability
  • Cheque stub from Income Assistance

Required Supporting Documents

  • Most recent Annual Income Tax Assessment
  • MMF Citizenship Card
  • Confirmation of disability (if applicable)
  • Photo of your wood-burning heat appliance

Helpful Reminders

  • Up to 2 cords of firewood per year for winter heating of your primary residence.
  • Only primary residences are eligible.
  • Please have all documents ready before you call or email.

The Manitoba Métis Federation provides firewood as a complimentary service to eligible Citizens. The MMF makes no guarantees regarding the quality or condition of the wood. Use is at your own risk. The MMF will not be liable for any damages to home heating systems, appliances, chimneys, or any other related property or damages that may arise.
