A Message from the Minister

A Message from Minister David Beaudin

I have been a proud Red River Métis Citizen for over 30 years. Over the years, my involvement grew from volunteering at the local level to founding the New Horizons Local in 2004, where I served as Chairperson for 14 consecutive years. Serving our Citizens in that capacity, and later as a Regional Executive for Winnipeg Region and as a Minister in President Chartrand's Cabinet, has given me a deep appreciation for what our government can accomplish when we work together.

Before taking on this role, I spent over 22 years as an instructor at Red River College Polytechnic (RRCP), where I taught technology, business, trades, project management, career development, and Indigenous Languages. That experience gave me a clear picture of how much a good education and the right opportunity can change a person's life. It also showed me the real barriers that Red River Métis Citizens face on the path to employment, and why programs like those offered through Métis Employment and Training (MET) are so important.

My connection to MET goes back further than my appointment. Through my years of volunteering on the Local Advisory Committee, I've had the privilege of working alongside the late Minister John Fleury and Kerry Smith, Senior Director of MET. We would often sit together discussing policies, procedures, and ways to improve what MET was doing for our Citizens. Those conversations shaped my understanding of this department and the people it serves. I carry that shared history with me, and I am honoured to continue building on the foundation they helped create.

Our MET team works closely with employers, government, and community partners to create meaningful, lasting employment opportunities for our Red River Métis Citizens - across our Homeland. As Minister, I am committed to building on MET's strong record and ensuring our programs continue to meet the real needs of Red River Métis Citizens. Whether you are looking for your first job, upgrading your skills, or exploring a new career direction, the MET Department is here to support you.

I want to thank our employer and community partners for the relationships they have built with MET over the years. Those connections are what make it possible for our Citizens to access good jobs and build strong futures. I look forward to strengthening those partnerships and continuing to grow what we offer.

To every Red River Métis Citizen: the MET Department exists to serve you. I encourage you to reach out to your local MET office and find out how we can help you move forward.

Together, we are building a stronger future for the Red River Métis Nation.
