About the HEO Training Program

We are gathering expressions of interest from Red River Métis Citizens committed to a career in Heavy Equipment Operation. This proposed 6-week program in Dauphin, MB offers hands-on training with industry equipment, builds safety knowledge, and prepares applicants for full-time employment in construction and heavy industry - delivered in partnership with Hockridge Trade School Ltd.

Training Components

Three integrated streams that build real-world competency.

Heavy Equipment Operation

Hands-on operation of seven machines. Covers controls, inspection routines, earthmoving, trenching, grading, backfilling, and site layout interpretation.

Safety Certifications

Nationally recognized credentials earned during training - transferable to future employers and valid beyond the program.

Upon graduation you receive
Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate + WHMIS + First Aid / CPR-C + Ground Disturbance 201

Eligibility & Requirements

Open to unemployed or underemployed Red River Métis Citizens in the MMF Northwest Region. Prior heavy equipment experience is not required.

You'll Need

  • Minimum Grade 9 or Mature Student status
  • Available for full-time training, Monday-Friday
  • Seeking full-time employment
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (asset, not mandatory)
  • Ability to follow verbal commands and hand signals
  • Proof of MMF Citizenship (Red River Métis)

Prior experience is not required. All skill levels are welcome to apply.

Program Outcomes

Graduates are equipped to pursue entry-level roles across construction and industrial sectors.

Entry-Level HEO

Operate machinery on active construction, road building, and earthmoving sites.

Construction & Earthworks

Support site operations with hands-on knowledge of equipment and safe practices.

Equipment Maintenance

Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance to keep machinery operational.

Groundworks & Site Prep

Join crews preparing sites for construction, pipeline, utility, and road projects.
