About the Program

MET is gathering expressions of interest from Red River Métis Citizens ready to build a career in heavy equipment operation. This 5 week, 240-hour program starting July 21, 2026 in Morden, MB is open to both those brand new to the field and experienced operators looking to formalize and sharpen their skills. Delivered in partnership with SWS Training & Consulting Inc., our HEO training program takes place on real, industry-standard equipment at live job sites.

Training Components

Three integrated streams that build real-world, job-ready competency.

Heavy Equipment Operation

Hands-on operation of seven machines on active job sites. Students learn controls, pre-shift inspections, equipment checks, earthmoving, grading, trenching, backfilling, and safe efficient operation. Trainers are experienced industry professionals who work in the trades every day.

Preventative Maintenance

A strong focus on keeping equipment operational and safe. Students learn pre-checks, minor maintenance procedures, equipment inspection, and basic troubleshooting - skills that employers value from day one.

Safety & Job Readiness

Nationally recognized safety credentials and practical coaching to help you enter the workforce with confidence.

Eligibility & Requirements

Open to unemployed or underemployed Red River Métis Citizens. This program is designed for both newcomers to the industry and experienced operators.

Entry Requirements

  • Unemployed or underemployed Red River Métis Citizen (MMF Citizenship # required)
  • Minimum Grade 10 (or Mature Student)
  • Available for full-time training
  • Good hand-eye and hand-foot coordination and ability to follow verbal commands and hand signals
  • Pursuing a heavy equipment career
  • Class 5 Driver's Licence is an asset; reliable transportation to attend training is a must.

No previous heavy equipment experience is needed. All skill levels are welcome.
